BHOPAL: With Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections just over a year away, Bharatiya Janshakti president Uma Bharti seems to have decided to focus her attention on grass-root level politics in the State and this was amply demonstrated by her unique protest at Indore on Sunday to oppose the entry of corporate houses in the vegetable retailing business.
Ms. Bharti, carried a vegetable basket on her head as she led a group of vegetable sellers, a large number of them women, on Sunday. She held a token demonstration by putting up a lock on the entrance to the Reliance Fresh outlet in the Mill area in Indore.
Ms. Bharti’s protest was aimed at conveying the message that the small vendors and vegetable retailers would be completely uprooted if big business houses were allowed complete sway over the retailing business.
