BJP sending MPs’ aides for training in Sangh institute

Sunday 13 May 2007

New Delhi, May. 13 (PTI): Stung by sting operations targeting its MPs, the BJP is sending personal assistants of its lawmakers to an institute belonging to the Sangh Parivar for training in public affairs.

Party sources said the PAs of BJP MPs would be required to pay Rs 5,000 each for training at the Ram Bhau Mhalgi Prabodhini near Mumbai.

The institute specialises in ideological training of BJP MPs, MLAs and corporators.

A session has been scheduled for personal assistants of BJP MPs from June 4 to June 9 for training in a variety of aspects, such as public dealing, at the institute.

"There was a thought in the BJP since the cash-for-query scandal that PAs of our MPs should be better skilled. They are now being sent there for this training. It’s voluntary," a senior party leader said.

Six BJP MPs were expelled two years ago after they were caught on camera accepting bribes for asking questions in Parliament.

In the current Parliament session, the BJP has also sent show-cause notices to some 30 to 35 of its MPs for absenteeism.

"They have been asked to explain why they did not attend the House. Many of them, for instance, were absent during a key vote for an SC/ST committee of the House. They need to be cautious," a party source said.

Earlier, the BJP sent similar notices, mostly to its actor-turned-MPs, for not attending the party’s key national executive and council meetings in Lucknow in December.
