NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday led the party in celebrating the 121st anniversary of its foundation day.
Several Union Ministers, working committee members and party workers were in attendance when Ms. Gandhi unfurled the party tricolour at the Congress headquarters in the Capital.
The short function began with the rendition of the `Vande Mataram’ and wrapped up with the National Anthem. The Congress office was festooned in party colours for the occasion. After the function, Ms. Gandhi held a meeting with party office-bearers at her office.
The Indian National Congress was founded on this day in 1885. The first session of the party was held at Mumbai between December 28 and December 31, and was attended by 72 members.
