Ultimatum to outsiders in Lucknow University campus

Tuesday 26 December 2006

They have been given 24 hours to vacate the premises

Lucknow: Lucknow University has served notices to outsiders staying in residential quarters of employees and given them 24 hours to vacate the premises.

University sources here said on Monday that the outsiders would be forcibly evicted if they do not vacate the campus within the stipulated time.

The university has also sought the help of the municipal corporation and the police to evict them, sources said.

Survey conducted

The decision to evict the outsiders was taken after a survey conducted by the university revealed that about 80 people were residing illegally in the residential quarters of the employees.

Meanwhile, a majority of students, who had been served with suspension notices earlier by the varsity Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.P. Singh, have not sent their explanations so far, varsity authorities said today.

The authorities have now given them an ultimatum to furnish their explanations within the next few days failing which they would be expelled from the university, they said.

The university had suspended 135 students with criminal background, a majority of them being Samajwadi Party student wing leaders, and had served notices on them earlier. PTI
