"Lucknow University may reopen in phases "

Vice-Chancellor submits action plan to the High Court

LUCKNOW: In an action plan submitted to the Allahabad High Court (Lucknow Bench), Lucknow University Vice-Chancellor R. P. Singh has said that the university might reopen in phases from January 3.

Prof. Singh informed the Court that he wanted to reopen the university to enable the students to write their back paper and other examinations.

The V-C submitted a list of 50 student leaders many of whom have criminal cases registered against them with several others already having been expelled from the university.

The Court gave the Government time till Friday morning for taking action against these leaders and submit the action taken report to it on Friday.

State Advocate-General S. M. A. Kazmi assured the Court of full cooperation in this regard.

With the Government assuring cooperation, there was a likelihood of the student leaders being arrested later on Thursday night.

The Vice-Chancellor has demanded that the police outpost in the university campus should be under the charge of a police circle officer along with adequate force for maintenance of law and order. Besides, a magistrate should be appointed to monitor police movement on the campus.

Prof. Singh further demanded that security for himself and the proctorial board members be beefed and police pickets and Rapid Action Force should be deployed in the university.

Prof. Singh also submitted to the Court a list of 300 persons illegally occupying the university property and demanded that a demolition drive be launched against them.

The case will come up for hearing today.
