LUCKNOW: A majority of Lucknow University students vacated their hostels ahead of the deadline set by the Allahabad High Court even as police entered the hostel premises on Sunday to persuade the remaining inmates to leave.
The University Vice Chancellor R P Singh, Divisional Commissioner R K Mittal and senior officials of the police visited university hostels to persuade inmates to vacate them within the stipulated time limit.
Over 90-95 per cent inmates have left the hostel and those still there will leave by tonight, a senior university official said.
Meanwhile, National Eligibility Test on Sunday passed off peacefully in the campus with heavy police force deployed at entry gates to avoid an untoward incident.
Time limit
The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad had on Friday last directed the students to vacate the hostel by Sunday night or face eviction.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the university R.P. Singh had ordered the indefinite closure of the university following resistance to implementation of the Lyngdoh Committee report on reforming students’ politics in campus. - PTI
