Allow smooth movement of buses, U.P. tells Delhi

Wednesday 15 November 2006

NOIDA: The Uttar Pradesh Government has appealed to the Delhi Government to allow smooth movement of buses of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation in the national Capital.

``I appeal to Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to act in the interest of commuters and not to block the UPSRTC fleet. We do not want confrontation which ultimately would harm Delhi rather than U.P.,’’ State Transport Minister Naresh Aggarwal told reporters here.

``Matters can be resolved through negotiations,’’ he said.

The Delhi Government last week decided not to allow buses from Uttar Pradesh to ply in the national Capital city citing that there was no agreement to this effect between the two States.

As the Delhi Transport Corporation has been operating in Noida since 1984, U.P.’s decision to run a bus fleet in Delhi was justifiable, said Mr. Aggarwal.

Earlier, at a function, U.P. Development Council Chairman Amar Singh inaugurated a UPSRTC CNG bus fleet which would run between Noida and Delhi. - PTI.
