NEW DELHI : The EC on Friday slapped showcause notices on the Congress and the DMK for using as many as 228 vehicles, instead of the mandated three, for Sonia Gandhi’s joint April 25 rally in Tamil Nadu. ??In complete violation of the model code of conduct, they used large number vehicles - around 228 - with party flags,’’ sources said.
This is the first time that a model code violation notice has been served to opposition parties in Tamil Nadu this elections. Both the Congress state unit and the DMK has been asked to reply to the showcause notice by May 1. ??The Commission issued notices to the general secretaries of the political parties to explain why no action be taken against them,’’ the sources said.
