Rahul steps up attack on Mulayam govt

Thursday 27 April 2006

Rae Bareli, April 27: Stepping up his attack on the Mulayam Singh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi today charged it with "neglecting" the basic problems of the people.

Addressing a series of meetings in the campaign for his mother and Congress President Sonia Gandhi for the May 8 by-election, he alleged the state government had been creating hurdles in the way of development of the state in general and Rae Bareli and Amethi in particular.

The state government had "done nothing" to address the basic issues of water, power and roads, he said addressing a meeting at Dheera Gobindpur village in the constituency.

He said the Centre was trying its best to help in the development of not only Rae Bareli and Amethi but the whole of the state.

"Our focus is on the whole of the state and not only the two Lok Sabha constituencies," Gandhi said.

The Congress MP addressed over 18 election meetings in several villages of Sataon, Sareni and Dalma assembly constituencies today. (Agencies)
