To understand "far-reaching and deep implications" of the incident
Patil honours CRPF recipients of Shaurya Chakra Sportspersons honoured for performance at Commonwealth Games
NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on Sunday called for a detailed analysis of the terrorist attack on Parliament on December 13, 2001, so that the implications of the incident could be understood fully.
Be alert
Addressing a ceremony marking the `Valour Day’ of the Central Reserve Police Force here, he said: "The entire episode needs to be analysed and reviewed properly so that the far-reaching and deep implications of the incident can be fully understood."
He also stressed the need for security forces to be physically and mentally alert all the time to prevent any possible terrorist attack.
"A sad chapter would have been written in Indian history if the security forces had not shown extreme valour and alertness in foiling the attack [on Parliament]."
On the occasion, he honoured the CRPF officers and jawans who had received the Shaurya Chakra for foiling attacks on Parliament and Ayodhya as also the veterans of the 1965 Battle of Sardar Post in the Rann of Kutch.
Promises assistance
He also gave away cheques for Rs. 1,25,000 each to Kunjurani Devi and Geeta Rani and Rs. 75,000 each to Monika Devi, Ashiq Biwi and Seema Antil for their performance at the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
The Home Ministry, he said, would provide all assistance to the CRPF for preparing sportspersons for the next Commonwealth Games here in 2010.
Women in police forces
The proposed increase of women in the police forces would ensure medals for India in the international sports arena, he quipped.
