The Orissa unit of the BJP has geared up to make the party’s Bharat Suraksha Yatra a big success. The customised Swaraj Mazda rath (KA-03 AC -189), reached here from Bangalore on Tuesday , covering a distance of 1,600 km.

The State BJP president Jual Oram said that a special security force from Delhi was bullet-proofing the vehicle especially as it would have to traverse through some Maoist-infested areas. The rath-in-charge, Purusottam said that the bus had all the facilities to make it a comfortable journey for the BJP President Rajnath Singh. There was even a hydraulic lift inside the bus which would raise a platform within the rath enablng Mr Singh to address crowds along the route. Four microphones have been installed on top of the vehicle. The bus can accommodate up to 6 people and is centrally air-conditioned. Two specially trained drivers will spell each other during the yatra.

Mr Rajnath Singh will arrive here on Wednesday afternoon. After addressing a Press conference, he will go to Puri to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath.

On April 6, Mr Singh will offer prayers to Lord Jagannath before launching his Rashtirya Abhiyan against the UPA Government’s divisive politics of minority appeasement and mass political campaign against terrorism.

He will then procceed to Bhubaneswar, where he will address a large gathering. Around 50,000 people are expected to listen to his address. From Bhubaneswar, he will commence his yatra. Asked why the rath would not start from Puri , Mr Oram said that officially the rashtirya abhiyan was from Puri to New Delhi, but as a mark of respect to Lord Jagannath, the rath would be driven from Bhubaneswar and not from Puri. The only rath that rolls out on the Badadanda (Grand Road) of Puri is that of Lord Jagannath , he added.

It had also been decided that Mr Singh would garland all the great sons of the State, who had sacrificed their lives for the cause of the Motherland. He would stopover at Sakhigopal on his way from Puri to Bhubaneswar and garland the statues of the Panchasakha, who had made invaluable contributions for the State. Mr Oram said Mr Singh would pay his respects to the families of those who had died during the Kargil War.

General secretary in-charge of the State BJP Vinay Katiyar and senior BJP leader and yatra in-charge Vijoy Goel arrived here on Tuesday to supervise the yatra.

Former Party president M Venkiahnaidu, Chief Minister of Jharkahand Arjun Munda and Chief Minister of Chhatisgarh Raman Singh would arrive here on Wednesday.

Fifty vehicles will accompany the rath. Besides the central leaders, State BJP president Jual Oram would accompany Mr Singh.

It is likely that Mr Rajnath Singh will make a courtesy call on Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The route has been planned to facilitate this, Mr Oram said. He said Mr Singh would be in the State for three days and the yatra would cover a distance of 633 km within the State. There will be public meetings at Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Dhenkanal on April 6, NTPC Kanhia, Pallahara, Deogarh, Bonai and Rourkela on April 7 and Rajgangpur and Sundargarh on April 8. Mr Singh will depart for Chhatisgarh on April 8.

The State BJP unit has appointed its secretary Suresh Pujari to look into the preparations for the yatra.
