Crowds line the route for a glimpse of actor

PONDICHERRY: Actor and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) president Vijaykant on Thursday said his party would not ally with any other outfit.

Addressing a meeting at Villianur as he launched his campaign in the Union Territory, Mr.Vijaykant reiterated that he wanted to go it alone in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. Urging people to back his youthful cadres, he said Pondicherry deserved a better deal. "This is a small Union Territory but successive Congress and DMK Governments have not done much for its people." He promised that if elected, his party would work towards developing Pondicherry. Tourism, port and airport would be the focus areas. He would start old age homes.

Earlier, Mr.Vijaykant began his campaign after garlanding a statue of the late Sivaji Ganesan. He then proceeded to Villianur, Koodapakkam, Pillayarkuppam, Katterikuppam and other rural areas. Large crowds lined the route to get a glimpse of the actor, whose convoy was stopped at several places by the people who wanted to hear him speak. He could not make any unscheduled halt as the Election Commission allows only specific stops.
