Mastermind in Amar Singh case tapped Gurgaon businessman’s phone: Cops

Monday 27 March 2006

New Delhi, March 27: DELHI police today registered a fresh case of phone-tapping against private detective Bhupinder Kumar, the alleged ??mastermind’’ in the Amar Singh case. Top Special Cell officers said that Kumar, who was placed on police remand for two days today, had also tapped the phone of a Gurgaon-based businessman.

Kumar, said the officers, will be interrogated after certain documents revealed that he had tapped the businessman’s phone.

??While examining documents seized from Kumar and other accused in the Amar Singh phone-tapping case, we found another number. Investigations revealed that this number was also placed under surveillance using wrong means,’’ said a senior Special Cell officer, who is involved in the probe.

Kumar, owner of South Ex-based Metro Detective Agency, was on judicial remand since his arrest on December 30, 2005, for allegedly tapping the Reliance phone at the Samajwadi Party MP’s New Delhi residence.

Two other detectives and a Reliance employee have also been arrested in the Amar Singh case, including Anurag Singh, owner of V-Detect agency in Connaught Place. ??Kumar is also being interrogated to check if the other three accused had a role to play in the new case,’’ said the officer.

Senior officers added that a report on the Amar Singh case investigation has been submitted in High Court-it mentions the fresh case. A chargesheet has already been submitted. Kumar, they claimed, was offered money to carry out the operation and the tapped CD was to be sold.
