CHENNAI: All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Monday announced that it would contest for 54 seats in the Assembly elections in the State. The party also named the candidates for the constituencies.
Earlier, the AIADMK had forged an electoral understanding with the Democratic Indira Congress- Karunakaran (DIC-K) for the elections.
No DIC(K) alliance
But since the DIC(K) was subsequently taken into the United Democratic Front, it was not in a position to honour its earlier understanding with the AIADMK.
"We are now in the UDF. We cannot take a decision on who will be in the UDF," said DIC)K) president K. Muraleedharan.
Asked about the understanding with the AIADMK, he said that it no longer stood.
"No. We are not in alliance any longer," he told The Hindu over phone.
