AIADMK cadres happy over Assembly seat allocations

Tuesday 28 March 2006, by SUNDARAM*R.

Campaign begins in many constituencies

Erode: The AIADMK workers today burst crackers over the announcement of AIADMK candidates for 9 constituencies in the district. However, some members were unhappy over the missing of name of former minister S. Muthuswamy in the list. Erode Panchayat Union Chairman E.R. Sivakumar has been announced as Erode candidate.

In 2001 Assembly election, the AIADMK has secured eight seats in the district and one was bagged by the DMK and two by the PMK (then having alliance with AIADMK). This time out of eight sitting MLAs only two persons P.C. Ramasamy (Modakurichi) and K.C. Karupannan (Bhavani) were given the seats.

The workers of Gobichettipalayam immensely pleased over the granting of Gobichettipalayam seat to K.A. Sengottiyan. His followers have all ready started the campaign. The Bhavanisagar constituency workers were slightly upset over the announcement of cadidature of `Sindhu" Ravichandran for their constituency.

The granting of Modakurichi seat to the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Minister P.C. Ramasamy was well expected and he was the sitting MLA of the constituency. The Perundurai seat was granted to C. Ponnudurai, the Chairman of the Perundurai Panchayat Union. Sivagami Vincent, who was elected on PMK seat from Dharapuram reserve constituency has joined the AIADMK and was granted seat again in the same constituency.

DMK election office

The DMK and its allied parties have jointly formed a DPA election office in Erode. The former Minister, N.K.K.Periyasamy, inaugurated it. The party has formed booth committees and started visiting villages and wall writing, without mentioning the name of the candidate.

Campaign has already started in Erode, Gobichettipalayam, Vellakoil and Anthiyur Assembly constituencies.
