End sit-in, Sonia tells partymen

NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi appealed to her party workers on Saturday to end the sit-in they were staging outside her 10 Janpath residence since her resignation from the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

Senior party leaders Ahmed Patel, Motilal Vora and Oscar Fernandes conveyed the Congress president’s appeal to the workers and leaders on Saturday evening. AICC secretary P. Sudhakar Reddy said that the leaders conveyed the decision of Ms. Gandhi and the reasons for her quitting the Lok Sabha and as chairperson of the National Advisory Council (NAC).

They said the party members should now fan out to various parts of the country to counter the propaganda of the Opposition and convey to the people the sentiments of the party president which prompted led her to take the decision. They said that she at all times was for protecting secular values in the country and politics based on principles.
