VISAKHAPATNAM: In a dramatic shift in its stand, State BJP president N. Indrasena Reddy on Monday said that his party was getting ready to support formation of separate Andhra and Telangana in deference to growing public opinion for smaller states.

Asked to comment on Himayathnagar MLA G. Kishan Reddy’s support for separate Telangana, Mr. Indrasena Reddy told reporters here that his party had always supported carving of smaller states.

He, however, denied any attempts to forge an alliance with the TRS. There was no truth in reports that the BJP had received feelers from the TRS, he added.

On the relationship with the TDP, he said as per their Central leadership’s decision, the party had no understanding with the TDP. "Our alliance broke the moment TDP leaders blamed loss of minority votes owing to their tie-up with our party," he said.

Mr. Indrasena Reddy said that in tune with alliance dharma, their party had supported the TDP in the by-elections for Asifnagar and Penukonda. For the first time, BJP fielded a candidate against the TDP in Visakha-I bypoll after their relationship with the TDP formally broke off.
