PONDICHERRY: Former Education Minister K Lakshmianarayanan has criticised the Union Territory Government for recruiting graduates from other States to fill vacancies to the posts of Tamil lecturers in government colleges.

Mr. Lakshminarayanan told presspersons here on Monday that there was legal provision available for posting local candidates.

While nearly 600 graduates in different disciplines were waiting for the jobs, the government on the other hand had recruited 21 Tamil lecturers from outside Pondicherry, he alleged.

Mr. Lakshminarayanan also wanted the the Union Territory government to repay all the bank loans taken by the fishermen prior to the tsunami last year.

He alleged that the government had not taken up proper relief work in the tsunami-hit areas despite being flush with funds.

He warned a series of agitations if corrective steps if these issues were not addressed.
