NAMAKKAL: Officials of various departments answered about 130 petitions received from farmers at the farmers’ grievances meeting here on Thursday.
Farmers complained that water released into the Mohanur Channel did not reach tail-end areas. Officials said that special attention would be paid to reduce the intake at the head areas. The right side bund of the Channel at River Nansei Idaiyaru would be strengthened when water release was stopped, they said.
When farmers demanded regular water release into the Raja Canal, the authorities said it was not possible as it would affect the discharge in other canals of the Mettur Reservoir. The Public Works Department was releasing water on shift basis, one week for canals on the left and another for those on the right.
