VHP for Gujarat ban on Advani

Thursday 9 June 2005

Charging him with being a "traitor", the city unit of VHP today said BJP leader L.K. Advani, who resigned as party President, "should be banned from entering Gujarat" as he had paid floral tributes at the tomb of founder of Pakistan Mohammed Ali Jinnah.

VHP’s Dilip Trivedi said in a release that Advani should not be allowed to even "step" inside Gujarat.

"This is Sardar (Patel’s) Gujarat and he was the one who unified all the kings and unified the nation and thus Advani should not be allowed to step in the state", Trivedi said.

Accusing Advani of being a "Bharat drohi" (traitor of India), "Ram Mandir drohi" (traitor to the cause of the Ram temple) and "Hindu drohi" (traitor of Hindus), the VHP leader claimed the entire state was ’ashamed’ at his statements.

The VHP has also sought Advani’s resignation from Somnath Trust as also as a member of Lok Sabha from Gandhinagar constituency.

Advani was scheduled to visit his constituency to inaugurate a rural power scheme project on June nine but there is no word as yet if he will be present for this function following his resignation.

The saffron brigade has locked horns with BJP and especially Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee for ’diluting’ their stand on the Ayodhya issue.
