KANCHEEPURAM: The Sankaracharyas of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam returned to the Sankara Mutt here on Wednesday.

Sri Jayendra Saraswathi and Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi were received by disciples near Sarvatheerthakulam on the outskirts of the town around 6 a.m. After accepting "poornakumbam" and "prasadam" brought from the Sri Kanchi Kamakshi Amman temple, the Acharyas entered the Mutt around 6.15 a.m.

The Chandramouleeswarar idol, which was brought along with the Acharyas, was kept at the main hall of the Mutt. Later, the Acharyas offered prayers at the Paramacharya’s Adhistanam.

Though Sri Jayendra Saraswathi had visited the Mutt thrice after his arrest, Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi came to the Mutt premises after nearly four months.

While the senior Acharya was arrested at Mehboobnagar, Andhra Pradesh, on November 11 last in connection with the Sankararaman murder case, Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi was detained on January 10.
