Lalu welcomes dissolution

Monday 23 May 2005

NEW DELHI: RJD chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad has welcomed the dissolution of Bihar assembly and said there would be political "realignments" in the next polls but ruled out severing ties with Congress and Left parties.

"In the next assembly polls there will be realignment of partners. There will be changes in the alliance. I will tread very cautiously. I have committed mistakes and will not repeat them. But I will never severe ties with Congress under any circumstances," he told reporters here.

However, he declined to comment on the possibility of any truck with Union Minister Ramvilas Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party.

Paswan with 29 MLAs had held the key in the government formation following a fractured verdict in the assembly polls and had ruled out any tie with RJD to form a government in the state leading to President’s rule with assembly kept under suspended animation.

Without naming Paswan, he said people of Bihar would not forgive those responsible for imposition of President’s rule and dissolution of the state assembly. Defeating communal forces will, however, be the "top priority", he added.
