No compromise on triple talaq system: Ulemas

Wednesday 30 June 2004

MUMBAI, JUN 30 (PTI). Over 80 Ulemas today attended an emergency meeting convened by the Raza Academy to discuss and debate the decision of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) to abolish the triple talaq system.

The Ulemas unanimously condemned the decision by the board and challenged it to a debate with Islamic jurists, according to a release here today.

The Ulemas also decided that if the AIMPLB decided to go ahead with its decision then it would have to face stiff opposition from Muslims all over India.

The Academy also threatened to launch a nation wide stir against the ’Unislamic Law’, it said.

"Any compromise against the rule of Shariat and the basic law laid down by the Holy Quran shall not be acceptable at all", it said.

The prominent Ulemas present at the meeting were Hazrat Saiyad Moin Ashraf Sahab, Hazrat Maulana Mansoor Ali Sahab, Hazrat Maulana Khalilurrehman Noori Sahab and Hazrat Maulana Rashidi Sahab.
