Inaugurating the minority conference on Saturday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had said the government would soon set up minority commissions and also ensure an additional grant to serve these sections through the National Minority Development and Finance Corporation.
While the government claims to have set the ball rolling on these issues, Arjun Singh said his ministry would do an additional bit for girl education among minorities. "I will seek special allocation for girls from minority communities in this budget or for the next year."
He regretted lack of any focussed forum in the ministry to deal with issues concerning minority educational institutes and said care would be taken now.
Responding to the concerns expressed by speakers (at the conference) on madarsas, Arjun Singh said that there was need to evaluate everything in a fair and just manner.
