TDP to protest party killings

Sunday 27 June 2004

HYDERABAD: The opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) plans to protest the alleged killings of its cadres by the ruling Congress in Andhra Pradesh.

The party says it will petition President APJ Abdul Kalam and the National Human Rights Commission, seeking their intervention in stopping the alleged attacks on TDP leaders and activists.

TDP president and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu held talks with senior leaders to chalk out a strategy to take up the issue at the national level.

With the killing of another party leader in Anantapur district on Saturday, the party decided to launch a vociferous protest in the assembly on Monday.

It is likely to move an adjournment motion and seek a firm assurance from the government to rein in Congress workers. The party is also planning a series of protest demonstrations in the state. ? Bennett, Coleman and Co., Ltd. All rights reserved.
