The meeting at the residence of party president M Venkaiah Naidu, attended among others by Advani and former ministers Jaswant Singh and Sushma Swaraj, Parliamentary party spokesman V.K. Malhotra and party General Secretary Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, discussed organisational matters and steps to revamp the party in the wake of the poll debacle, party sources said.
Naidu is likely to constitute soon the national executive as also install a new team of office bearers, both of which were kept in abeyance in view of the Lok Sabha elections, they said.
A preliminary exercise in this regard began on Tuesday with an informal meeting of the top leaders with former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.
"It was felt that in view of the electoral setback and the coming Assembly polls, there was a need to revamp the party so as to boost morale of the cadres," the sources said.
The party is expected to corner "charge sheeted ministers" in the new government as part of its strategy.
The BJP Parliamentary party is scheduled to meet on June 1 on the eve of the Lok Sabha session and with Vajpayee showing reluctance to become leader of Opposition, the mantle is likely to fall on Advani. Vajpayee, however, is expected to head the NDA.
