NEW DELHI: The Centre is examining all legal options to resolve the issue arising out of the Supreme Court’s stay on implementation of reservation for Other Backward Classes in higher education institutions.

Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh reiterated this stand of the Government in his inaugural address at a conference of State Education Ministers convened by his ministry here on Tuesday.

He listed the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act among the major achievements of the United Progressive Alliance Government during X Plan.

Referring to the 93rd Constitution Amendment to provide for OBC reservation in Central educational institutions, Mr. Singh said Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand enacted State-specific legislation following his request to the Chief Ministers in January 2006. Rajasthan issued an executive order.
