AHMEDABAD: The All-India Christian Council has thanked Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for taking a strong stand against the Sangh Parivar to allow the Christians in the State celebrate Christmas peacefully on Monday.

AICC joint secretary Samson Christian said that following the request by Christian organisations, District Collectors of the Dangs and Bhavnagar refused permission to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to hold the Hindu sammelan and the Guru Golwalkar birth centenary celebrations on the day. Tight police security was maintained in the Christian-dominated areas, particularly the tribal district of the Dangs, which has a history of Hindu-Christian clashes during Christmas celebrations.

Similarly, the Guru Golwalkar birth centenary celebrations was also shifted on the advice of the Bhavnagar District Collector.
