SIMI is not terrorist: UP Chief Minister

Thursday 24 August 2006

UP chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, speaking in the state assembly on 23 August 2006 during a debate on motion brought by the BJP and Congress on terrorism and security in the state, said that the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) cannot be termed as a terrorist organisation.

He said that no person belonging to this organisation is involved in any act of terrorism. He added that there is no proof that SIMI was involved in the incidents of Ayodhya, Varanasi and Sharamjeevi Express. He said that some individual may be involved with terrorism but no organisation may be declared terrorist on that basis.
