Mood of festivity among cadres of AIADMK and MDMK

KALINGAPATTI (Tirunelveli district): The ancestral house of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko in Kalingapatti wore a festive look as it accorded a warm reception to All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary and Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, on Sunday.

Happiness was writ large on the faces of all, including Mr.Vaiko, his family members and the huge gathering outside. The cadres of both parties seemed keen to demonstrate that they had sunk their differences over the incarceration of Mr.Vaiko and other party functionaries under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

Ms.Jayalalithaa, during her campaign for the Democratic People’s Alliance, covered Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district and various places in Tirunelveli. Along with her friend Sasikalaa she visited her "brother’s house," where Mr.Vaiko’s wife Renuka received her with a bouquet of flowers.

Mr.Vaiko and his son Durai Vaiyapuri were present. After a 25-minute meeting with Mr.Vaiko’s family members, Ms.Jayalalithaa expressed happiness at her maiden visit to the house. "I am happy to be here at my brother Vaiko’s house," she told reporters.

Mother’s blessings

About meeting Mr.Vaiko’s mother V.Mariammal, she said, "She blessed me with all love and affection as my mother would have done."

MDMK workers feel Ms.Jayalalithaa’s meeting with Vaiko’s mother would assuage the ruffled feelings of cadres in both the parties. The fluttering flags of both parties, colourful festoons and life-size pictures of Ms.Jayalalithaa that dotted the road from the Tiruvengadam junction to Kalingapatti indicated their mood.
