Mulayam wins trust vote, crisis far from over

Lucknow, February 28: Even though the Mulayam Singh govt won the trust vote 206-0 in UP Assembly, things have not fallen in place. When the BJP, BSP and Congress staged a walk out, Ajit Singh refused to display his card. He said he would consult his MLAs first.

In a setback to the Mulayam Singh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday set aside previous Assembly Speaker Kesri Nath Tripathi’s decision to grant recognition to deserting 40 BSP MLAs, who subsequently joined the ruling Samajwadi Party.

A three-member Lucknow Bench of the court in a 2-1 verdict declined to settle the issue of disqualification of the deserting BSP MLAs, saying the issue can be decided only by the Speaker.
