New Delhi, June 10. (PTI): L K Advani has taken back his resignation as BJP President, senior leader Pramod Mahajan announced today at the end of the Parliamentary Board meeting.

Advani withdrew the resignation at the meeting which was attended by the party’s top leaders including former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Murli Manohar Joshi.

The meeting adopted a resolution in which the party made clear its position on Mohammed Ali describing him as a person who had launched a communal agitation and partitioned the country on the basis of religion.

There was bloodshed and lakhs were rendered homeless, the resolution noted, said party spokesperson Sushma Swaraj.

The resolution had the approval of Advani, who expressed satisfaction that it took into account the achievements of his Pakistan visit.

She said the resolution praised those points which were "great achievements" of his visit including the launching of restoration of the Katasraj temple, the furthering of the peace process initiated by the NDA Government and his discussions on cross-border terrorism with Pakistani leadership.

"During the last four days there was a crisis gripping the party after Advani’s resignation, which was unequivocally rejected. It is now over," Swaraj said.

She said Advani yesterday wanted the party to make clear its stand on his visit to Pakistan.

A big drama: CPI

Meanwhile, the CPI today described as "a big drama full of duplicity" the resignation of BJP president L K Advani and its subsequent withdrawal.

"It is a big drama full of duplicity and unscrupulousness. It is Advani’s surrender and big compromise," CPI leader D Raja said.
