GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat Government has been awarded the "UNESCO Asia Pacific Heritage Award" for the conservation and reconstruction of the Sikh Gurdwara at Lakhpat in Kutch district. It was damaged in the 2001 earthquake.
The Government had taken up the reconstruction of the two centuries-old Gurdwara built to commemorate Guru Nanak’s visit to Lakhpat about 400 years ago. The reconstruction taken up as part of the cultural heritage preservation programme was supported by the Archaeological Survey of India and the United Nations Volunteer Programme.
