Mufti compliments PM on troops reduction

Thursday 11 November 2004

SRINAGAR: Calling Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s announcement of reduction of troops in Jammu and Kashmir this winter as a major step after the ceasefire on the borders, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said troops reduction would bring down the level of violence in the state.

"It is a major step after the ceasefire on the borders... To take forward the ongoing process of normalisation and a befitting Diwali and Eid gift to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially when it comes ahead of the upcoming visit of Prime Minister," Sayeed said in a statement here.

Sayeed said he was confident that the bold initiative taken by the Prime Minister would find a matching response so that peace with dignity, corner stone of his government’s policy, was restored in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chief Minister complimented Manmohan Singh for taking a courageous step and hoped that it ushers Jammu and Kashmir into an era of lasting peace, progress and development.
