Laloo-Rudy face-off in Chapra

Monday 31 May 2004

CHAPRA: Repoll began Monday morning in Chapra Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar amidst tight security.

No untoward incident has been reported from anywhere in the constituency so far, official sources said.

Long queues of voters were seen at several polling stations in the town.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made for Monday’s repoll.

Sixty companies of CRPF and Rapid Action Force besides 5000 District Armed Police personnel have been deployed to cover all the 1157 booths spread over the constituency. All the booths have been identified as sensitive.

RJD candidate and Railway minister Laloo Prasad Yadav and BJP nominee Rajiv Pratap Rudy are locked in a direct fight in Chapra.

The Election Commission had on May 10 countermanded the election to Chapra and ordered repoll after its inquiry team confirmed large scale rigging and booth capturing during April 26 poll in the constituency.
